The Festival season in Edinburgh ends with the Festival Fireworks concert – 45 minutes of fireworks over the castle set to music. It is always spectacular, and this year was no disappointment. We got a lovely evening for it, mild and dry, so had a picnic in the gardens while we waited for the sun to set and the fireworks to start. The programme of music for 2012: Walton Orb and Sceptre Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet (excerpts) Walton Suite from Henry V (excerpts) The “Dance of the Knights” from Romeo and Juliet was one of the most memorable pieces – it felt very appropriate to see battlements ablaze to such a dramatic piece. I also liked the very delicate green fireworks that accompanied the Fantasia on Greensleeves.
