Ruth and I went to New York to celebrate her birthday. The mission? See a couple of broadway musicals and hit the tourist trail... Mission accomplished.
We stayed in the Andaz Hotel on Wall Street, which had these rather cool room number signs that projected the number on the wall.
New York Harbour Taxi.
Pier 17 - near our hotel so we went to find some dinner.

We started our first full day with a trip out to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

We got a lovely day for our boat ride.

Lady Liberty stands in front of the Manhattan skyline.
New Jersey on the left, and Manhattan on the right.

The original flame from the Statue of Liberty - illuminated from within.
Looking up inside the structure of the statue.
We went up to the top of the stone pedestal, which has great views out across the harbour, but more limited views of the statue!

Ruth and I.
Slightly better view of the statue from here.
Fact: Ruth is much smaller than the Statue of Liberty.

Ruth and I again, complete with our lovely audio tour headsets...
I promise this is the last photo of the statue...
The entrance to Ellis Island Immigration Station. New arrivals to the USA landed in the docks on Manhattan then were put on ferries and brought here for clearing. Of course, First Class passengers were not subjected to this. Welcome to the classless society!
The main hall at Ellis Island Immigration Station, where immigrants discovered if they were to be admitted, held for further enquiries, or sent home.
A huge poster for one of the shows we saw - Daniel Radcliffe starring in "How to succeed in business without really trying". Very enjoyable.
The other show we saw was "Catch Me If You Can" - also excellent.
Times Square by night.
We awoke this morning to find a TV creq shooting outside our hotel window.

A turtle in the "Turtle Pond" in Central Park.
This building has a ripply surface - I love it.
Construction going on in the streets - I wonder if they are hoping trams will eventually materialise?
The external fire escapes are very alien to me Scottish eyes.
Monolith.
The city is jammed full of taxis.
The Empire State Building. One of the few things I remember from my last visit thirty years ago.
The internal decor is quite stunning in places.
View down Manhattan.
View across the East River.
The airship mooring tower (I jest not) on the top of the Empire State Building.

More street art - then straight back to our hotel to check out and fly home!
