The Scarborough Battleships
On the lake, in Peasholm park, in Scarborough, there is a storm brewing. An epic battle, a clash between titans. A war fought to the death, until only the winner remains.
Ruth remembers seeing this fantastic clash as a child, remembers the glory, remembers the sound of shellfire and the smell of cordite. So we have returned to the scene only to find that the old enemies once more stand on the brink.
Curiously, this conflict is almost as widely advertised as the Gulf War was.

The British fighting merchantman Jervis Bay
The armed merchant vessel Asturias.
One of our carriers, part of the escort for the convoy.
We're prevented by the censors from revealing the names of the naval vessels present.
The convoy appears adequately protected however. What could possibly go wrong? Surely our supplies will get through safely?
But what's this? An enemy vessel has sneaked out of its port unobserved.
Have the enemy disguised ships as ducks in a new and cunning ploy?
One of our ships engages, and look at the smoke raised by our attack...
...but calimity strikes - the Asturias is coming under fire!
My goodness, one of her ammo stores must have been hit...
...she's dead in the water...
...listing to starboard, vicious fires raging on her deck. At least her escorts seem to have forced the enemy ship back to the shelter of it's harbour.
An enemy submarine is sighted, but fighters from our carrier quickly start the attack...
.. a direct hit - hurrah ...
...sub is crippled - our ships are safe.
I spoke too soon - the Jervis Bay has strayed within range of the shore battery...
..another of our fine merchant ships is ablaze!
We must launch an all out assault on the enemy base immediately!
A bomber scores a hit on the jetty as our navy rakes the shore with fire...
...paving the way for our boys to sail triumphantly into the port an take posession! The threat is eliminated!!!!!
